Christopher, Andre, Brian, and Jason Dalyrimple were four young brothers with a dream in the ’90s. We know them as Soul for Real (also Soul 4 Real), the group that took the music industry by storm with their hit single “Candy Rain” and debut album of the same name.
According to a 1995 Daily News article, the brothers and their family fell on hard times after relocating to Florida in 1990 to attempt to fulfill their father’s dream of owning a construction company. After plans fell through, the family had to cram into a diminutive, two-bedroom house.
What was their ticket out of poverty? Their unique voices and musical talents. Like all parents, their mom, Brenda, was initially against her youngest child, Brian (the lead singer), hanging out with “the big guys.” However, she changed her mind once she saw they were serious about following their dreams.
“She was worried at first, but with the state we were in; she figured, ‘Why not?'” Brian said in the Daily News interview. “All of us were living in a two-bedroom house. My mom was like, ‘Anything to get us out of this.'”
That’s when the journey truly began. In 1995, “Candy Rain” was already certified gold, and the group was preparing to release their debut album, which is now certified platinum. Here are some facts you might not know.
