The Easter tradition I will always hold close to my heart

Colorful eggs in a basket

You’re never too old to dye eggs.

That’s what I tell myself every year when Easter comes. Dyeing eggs and making them “pretty,” as younger me would say, has been a family tradition since I was a little girl. Every year, my family and I go to the grocery store and head straight to the holiday section to pick the best dye kit.

We usually choose the ones with tablets that dissolve in hot water, though the color is never bold because we always forget to buy vinegar, just like this year. Some things never change. However, the stickers and “magic” crayon in the kit always make up for the lack of color.

Once we boil about nine eggs, we make it a friendly competition to see who’s the best “egg artist.” Not to toot my own horn, but mine always come out the best, with my mom and sister close behind. Don’t tell them I said that.

A tradition worth keeping

Little moments like this remind me how special life can be. It usually takes about 2 hours to complete this family fun competition, including boiling and decorating the eggs. But it’s a tradition that brings me back to a happy place that adulting can sometimes take away with all its responsibilities.

Everything we use:

  • A dye kit
  • Plastic or paper plates
  • Eggs (of course)

Why I love this tradition so much:

  • Endless laughs with my family
  • So, I think it’s actually fun.
  • It brings out the competitor in me.
  • Favorite childhood stories are always being told…again and again.
