Everyone deserves a chance at true love, even Frankenstein’s monster.
Warner Bros. Pictures dropped the official trailer for The Bride! starring Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale, and I already put money aside for a trip to the theaters on March 6.
Maggie Gyllenhaal serves as directer, co-producer, and writer. The Academy Award nominee’s version explores themes of love, identity, and power through the story of a woman (Buckley) who is chosen as Frankenstein’s (Bale) significant other. The two find out that, together, they’re wild and powerful.
The official synopsis says:
A lonely Frankenstein (Bale) travels to 1930s Chicago to ask groundbreaking scientist Dr. Euphronious (five-time Oscar nominee Annette Bening) to create a companion for him. The two revive a murdered young woman and The Bride (Buckley) is born. What ensues is beyond what either of them imagined: Murder! Possession! A wild and radical cultural movement! And outlaw lovers in a wild and combustible romance!
The Bride!’s trailer says a lot without showing too much
In two minutes and twenty-six seconds, I got the feel of what this movie is going to turn into. There’s a line Buckley says that really follows the theme of women having independence. Even while having a significant other, which I loved. At the 2:09 mark, the monster refers to her as “The Bride of Frankenstein,” and The Bride corrects him and says, “No, just The Bride.”
The quick ending scene really sums up the trailer. Although The Bride was created to be his companion, that’s not all that she is. The Bride has her own identity as well. And she’s ready to stand beside her man and not follow his lead, but they’ll have the same pace.
I didn’t feel like I watched the entire film during the trailer. I’m so excited to buy the largest bucket of popcorn and get lost in The Bride’s world (and the rest of the characters).
