An eventful season filled with grit, milestones, and memorable moments best describes the Chicago Sky’s road to the 2023 WNBA playoffs. The team faced adversities this season when former head coach and general manager James Wade decided to depart for an assistant coach position with the NBA’s Toronto Raptors.
Wade’s resignation surprised Chicago Sky fans and players, yet the team defied all odds and clinched a playoff spot. The round one matchup against A’ja Wilson, Kelsey Plum, and the Las Vegas Aces was a tough one—and it resulted in the end of their post-season run. However, the team always “came out swinging” on the court, giving the games their all until the last second.
Kahleah Copper, Courtney Williams, Dana Evans, Marina Mabrey, and more brought excitement to Chicago when the team was home at Wintrust Arena and even away games.

Sky hosted the first-ever WNBA Marvel Superhero Day.
Whoever thought of combining Marvel and basketball needs to be praised. In addition, whoever decided to let the Sky host the first-ever WNBA Marvel Superhero Day needs a raise; the people have spoken. The celebration was held on September 3rd at Wintrust Arena, and attendees got a free team poster.
Courtney Williams reached 3,000 career points.
Courtney reached two milestones this season. She snagged the sixth Triple Double in Sky’s franchise and reached 3,000 career points.
Kahleah Copper’s exciting contract extension.
One of the best highlights of the season is Kahleah Copper’s contract extension. The 2021 Finals MVP agreed to a two-year deal with the team, easing the stress of Sky fans as losing Copper in free agency would’ve been tragic.
Marina Mabrey set a franchise record.
Talk about setting the tone in your first year with a new team. The Los Angeles Sparks drafted the shooting guard in 2019, but she made her presence felt with the Sky. Mabrey became the player with the most three-pointers, 83, in a single season in Sky franchise history.
The game day looks were immaculate—top-tier style.
Remember that Bow Wow (aka Shad Moss) song? It went a little something like, “You ain’t fresh as I’m is.” The Chicago Sky is easily one of the flyest teams in the WNBA. Their game-day looks were as clean as their skills on the court.
