Google Tina Turner’s name, and at the top of the page, you’ll see “Did you mean: Simply the Best?”
This can be interpreted in two ways. The Queen of Rock and Roll has a classic song with that title. Although, with her various hits like “Proud Mary,” “River Deep-Mountain High,” and Private Dancer,” it’s not the only single she’s known for.
You also have to factor in that she was literally simply the best. She was an undeniably talented and influential artist with courage like no other.
Losing her shattered the music industry as they had to farewell another legend. Her absence leaves a void, but her influence will continue to guide artists for generations.
Tina Turner passed away on May 23, 2023, in Switzerland. Despite the hardships she publicly and privately faced, the singer prevailed. She kept on rockin’ and rollin’ even when critics doubted that she would succeed as a solo act.
Tina Turner: Crumbling society’s definition of “old”
The “What’s Love Got To Do With It” singer defied societal expectations and redefined what it meant to age. In her forties, she took a bold step to revive her career, refusing the limitations of the concept of ‘old.’
“I won’t acknowledge age,” Turner told Tulsa World entertainment writer Tom Carter in 1980.
“You heard of people who refuse to think about something? Well, I don’t think about age. I think I’m young, and I am.”
This was more than just a statement. It was a mantra that guided her career and life. It allowed her to continue to ‘rock on’ in a one-of-a-kind style.
At the time of the interview, Turner was only 40. Yet, according to the industry’s ever-changing standards, that was old. Turner was far from their definition of old, though. She was energetic and could move like no other.
Her performances were not just memorable; they were golden.
Turner proved that age was just a number, and she refused to let it slow her down.
