Angel Reese makes WNBA History as First Rookie to Get Seven Consecutive Double-Doubles

Angel Reese’s game is translating to the league just fine.

The 2024 seventh-overall pick has been a key player for the Chicago Sky and just made history. In a game that was a thrilling display of skill and determination, Reese secured her seventh consecutive double-double. This remarkable feat was achieved during Thursday’s game against the Dallas Wings at Wintrust Arena.

Newly dubbed “The Double-Double Barbie,” the Forward became the first WNBA rookie to achieve this historic accomplishment. In the 83-72 win, Reese garnered 16 points, 18 rebounds, and three assists. Her physical style of play and unbelievable ability to get various offensive and defensive rebounds contributed significantly to the team’s win.

Now, the 22-year-old finds herself at the top of the league’s rookie consecutive double-double chart, ranked with greats like Candace Parker and Tina Charles.

Reese’s performance is nothing short of extraordinary. She has already surpassed 100 rebounds for the month of June, a record that has been noted by StatMamba via X (formerly Twitter). What’s more, she’s the fastest WNBA player since Tina Charles(2010) to record 150 rebounds, and the season is far from over.

Reese and the Sky showed team chemistry

The Baltimore native isn’t the only teammate who shined at Wintrust Arena Thursday afternoon. Guard Chennedy Carter and veteran Forward Marina Mabrey had 19 points each, while rookie Center Kamilla Cardoso nearly snagged her second WNBA double-double. Cardoso had 9 points and 11 rebounds.

Dana Evans also showed out with 12 points and 4 rebounds.

Thursday’s win at home brings the Sky’s season record to 5-9 after a four-game losing streak. They’ll look to secure another win in Sunday’s game (June 23) against the Indiana Fever.

It’ll be the teams’ third matchup as the Sky look to secure their first win of the season against the Fever.

With her exceptional performance, Angel Reese is on a path to set more records that will bolster her strong Rookie of the Year campaign.
