The twenty-ninth season of ABC’s The Bachelor has begun, and viewers are already in a frenzy over the show’s lover boy.
Granted—no pun intended—they’re already well-acquainted with the Newark, New Jersey native. Ellis, a familiar face from season 21 of The Bachelorette where he finished in fifth place, is now back for another shot at love.
In lovey-dovey fashion, the newest Bachelor season premiered on Monday, January 27. Twenty-five women set out to win Grant’s heart, but only 18 passed the “first impression” vibe check.
Of course, as the season goes on, things will get deeper, and viewers will stand by who they think Grant should choose. However, until then, let’s learn some fun facts about the newest bachelor, including his hobbies.
Four Facts About The Bachelor‘s Grant Ellis

Ellis is a former pro basketball player.
Grant was a star high school basketball player and even received a Division I scholarship to play for the Iona Gaels men’s basketball team. He ended up transferring to Albertus Magnus College and went pro overseas. Ellis played for the top basketball league in the Dominican Republic, the Liga Nacional de Baloncesto.
An injury cut his dreams short; ultimately, Ellis retired from basketball. However, he found success as a day trader in Houston.
He has a degree in criminal justice.
Looks, athleticism, and brains: Grant has it all. After transferring to Albertus Magnus College, the former athlete graduated in 2017 with a degree in criminal justice.
Grant is a “mama’s boy.”
Hey, he said it, not us! In his official bio, Grant declared himself a “mama’s boy.” (shout out to all of our moms!)
Three things he loves: the Lakers, bowling and karaoke.
Yes, he’s a member of the #LakeShow fanbase, rooting for LeBron James and the team to bring another ring to the City of Angels. When he’s not at a game or screaming at his TV, you can catch him hitting strikes at a bowling alley.
Or, you might hear him singing off-key during a karaoke night. (maybe on key, who knows, Grant might have vocals!)
