LL Cool J and Peyton Manning team up for new Paramount+ docuseries ‘Hip Hop Was Born Here’

Paramount+, Rap icon LL Cool J, and Pro Football Hall of Famer Peyton Manning are exploring the historical tales of Hip Hop with the new music docuseries Hip Hop Was Born Here. Co-created and executive-produced by Cool J and Manning, the series will premiere on Paramount+ on Tuesday, July 22.

The five-episode production will feature special guest appearances, neighborhood visits, and studios and places where the magic happened. Cool J, a Hip Hop pioneer and Grammy Award winner, will also host the series. He brings a personal touch to the exploration of the genre’s history through exclusive interviews.

Who will appear on Paramount+’s Hip Hop Was Born Here?

According to the press release, Hip Hop Was Born Here “promises to deliver a new level of insight into how hip-hop first came to be and how it transformed into the global sensation that it is today.” To achieve this, the production will feature appearances from heavy hitters in the genre, including OGs and rising stars.

There will be appearances from the following: LL COOL J, Big Daddy Kane, Bimmy, Crystal Caines, Doug E. Fresh, Grandmaster Caz, Jadakiss, Lady London, Marley Marl, Method Man, Rev Run, Roxanne Shante, Salt of Salt-N-Pepa, Sheek Louch, and more.

Set a reminder for Tuesday, July 22, if you live in the United States, Canada, Latin America, or Brazil. Users in the United Kingdom, Australia, Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria can start watching on Wednesday, July 23.

The importance of continuing to tell the story of Hip Hop’s history

Hip Hop turned fifty in 2023, with celebrations worldwide honoring the artists whose music greatly impacted the industry. The stories of where it all began are cherished and have influenced today’s generation of rappers to keep hip hop culture alive and in good hands. In addition, it’s crucial to hear these stories often, serving as a refresher and enlightening new generations about the genre that changed the game.
