When I first heard the name Tyriq Withers, I had no idea who he was. It wasn’t until I watched I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025), the sequel to 1998’s I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, and the football horror HIM that I finally matched a face to the name.
Withers appeared in many productions before those films, including a revival of The Game, an episode of Atlanta, and Tell Me Lies. Over the past couple of months, I’ve seen his face everywhere, especially since Kerry Washington playfully calls him her Scandal character Olivia Pope’s son.
He also stars in the upcoming dark romance Reminders of Him, based on Colleen Hoover’s book, as Ledger Ward, a former NFL player and local bar owner. Maika Monroe co-stars as Kenna Rowan, an ex-convict on a mission to get her life back.
With Withers’ press run for the film and his presence on social media, I can see he’s becoming the next “chosen guy” in Hollywood, and I like it. As someone who loves watching movies, I’m tired of seeing the same few faces, so it’s nice to see a new guy get a chance to shine.
Tyriq Withers’ career is going in the right direction
While researching the actor, I found his earliest credits date back to 2021, just 5 years ago. That role was a one-off appearance in an episode of The CW’s Legacies as a Wolf Tour Student. Since then, he’s booked at least one role, from shorts to full productions, every year. In 2025, when HIM and I Know What You Did Last Summer came out, I thought he was marketing himself as a horror movie guy, but I was glad to see Withers and his team aren’t limiting him to one genre.
Reminders of Him seems to be his first main non-horror movie role since he stepped onto the scene. So, I’m sure critics will be watching his performance closely.
The most important thing is that he continues to be his authentic self. I’ve seen numerous interview clips of Withers, and the guy is just refreshing. I hope he has a long, fulfilling career.
