Raise your hand if you’ve ever made up a reason to skip the gym (no judgment, that’s me!). My schedule is always packed, so when it came time to grab my bag and head to Planet Fitness, my brain would go, “You deserve a break. Binge that show you’ve seen one hundred times.” Cue me promising myself, “Next time for sure.” Spoiler: I never went.

All of a sudden, my go-to jeans were too tight. My favorite shirt? Forget about it. That’s when I knew it was time to switch things up, you know, enter my “fitness era.” Like everyone else, I’d been bombarded with walking pad videos on TikTok, but instead of ordering from the TikTok Shop, I went to Amazon and bought the Viamotion Walking Pad for $109 (and yes, I added the 2-year protection plan).

I’ve been using it six days a week ever since it was delivered on June 1 (30 minutes Monday-Wednesday, then a full hour Thursday-Saturday). It slides right under my couch so it’s not in the way when I’m not using it. And the best part? It has remote speed control, adjustable incline, a handlebar, and it came completely assembled.

So, was my walking pad worth it? Absolutely.

A month and a half in, my living room has basically become my own personal wellness studio. I typically burn between 300 and 600 calories per session (1,000 when I run for more than an hour), which isn’t bad considering I’m also doing early-morning walks and squeezing in jump rope, squats, and the occasional weight session.

If you’re like me and struggle to make it to the gym, I can’t recommend buying a walking pad enough. I get to sweat it out in the comfort of my own home.

Of course, I’ve also swapped out some of my go-to snacks for healthier ones and paid closer attention to my overall calorie intake. I’m not a fitness guru by any means; I’m just figuring out what works for my lifestyle, one step at a time.
