A new Marvel movie is on the way, and we couldn’t be more excited. Avengers: Doomsday is coming soon, and all the previous Marvel movies have been leading up to this moment. But before the big team-ups, there’s still one more hero’s story to tell: your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.
The last time we saw Peter Parker, he joined forces with two other Spideys from different universes. They worked together to defeat villains and prevent history from changing. As the multiverse began to fall apart, Peter asked Dr. Strange to use a spell that made everyone, even MJ and Ned, forget who he was. Now that no one remembers him, Peter creates a new suit and starts over as a solo Spider-Man, prepared to face whatever lies ahead.
Four years later, we’re just a few days away from seeing how the new Spider-Man handles things. But before we dive into this next chapter, here are three things to know before watching Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
The world still has no idea who Peter Parker is
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is serving as a complete structural reset for Peter Parker. Dr. Strange’s spell worked, and Peter got his wish: to scrub the entire world’s mind of Peter Parker. We’ll see just how much Peter’s wish changed his life.
No Stark tech/armor
Peter Parker is now fully operating under a strict DIY budget; that means no more fancy suit armor, tech, or satellites, as he must now protect the neighborhood by relying on a police scanner, news, and day-to-day crime watching. Without the safety net of Stark tech and armor, it will be very exciting to see just how long Parker can keep up the responsibilities of being Spider-Man.
Ned and MJ’s Role
After three years at MIT, Ned and MJ are back in New York job-hunting. They throw a housewarming party, and Peter shows up — posing as their next-door neighbor. Ned is still obsessed with Spider-Man’s identity, and MJ has a new boyfriend, hoping for something exciting. They remember Spider-Man, but those memories don’t link to Peter. He can only watch from afar, stuck on the outside of their lives.
We were left with a lot of questions from the ending of Spider-Man: No Way Home, and now we get to see if Brand New Day will answer them all or leave us with more.
