Who has time to play it cool when opportunity knocks? Well, in this case, it texts you. In April, I remember watching Jaafar Jackson step into his uncle Michael Jackson’s shoes for his debut film role, thinking it was only a matter of time before Hollywood came calling again.
Earlier today, I saw Will Smith post a video on Instagram which shows the Bad Boys actor texting someone, hyping them up and inviting them to join his next big movie in Australia. The camera zooms out after he hits send, revealing Jaafar Jackson on the other end. I didn’t pay attention to their collab tag, so that reveal hit different.
Smith’s text reads: “Yo Man!! Love what you do. You are the TRUTH! So…I got this movie shootin’ in Australia soon – and we got a fun part for you. I know that’s a long flight… but I’d love for you to be a part of this flick – Supermax. What do you think?!”
Almost instantly, three little dots appear, indicating someone is typing, and we see Jackson reply with “I’m IN!!” and follow up with “Guess I better pack my dang bags.”
Jaafar Jackson’s response was too real
Obviously, the main purpose of the video was to promote Supermax and show Jackson’s involvement, but his response is exactly what I could see myself saying. Who would say no to starring in a film with Will Smith after a successful debut? Smith has multiple box office blockbusters, including Independence Day, Hancock, Men in Black, and I Am Legend, each earning more than half a billion worldwide. Long flight or not, I would’ve said yes to this opportunity, or in Jackson’s words, packed “my dang bags” in thirty minutes.
What will Supermax be about?
Personally, I can’t wait to see Jaafar flex his range in an action thriller. We don’t know all the details about his role yet. According to Deadline, Supermax follows two FBI agents (Smith and AnnaSophia Robb) investigating an impossible murder inside a maximum-security prison.
