Tia Mowry’s dating life has been getting a lot of attention lately, but her new project with Lifetime is worth talking about too. Most of her movies with the network are holiday-themed, but Single Black Tenant puts her in a suspenseful thriller based on real events.

Esme Williams, played by Mowry, thinks she’s found the perfect apartment. Everything seems to be going well until she realizes her new home is actually the last place she feels safe.

Here’s what the synopsis says:

Esme Williams believes her luck has turned after landing an affordable apartment in a quiet Cleveland neighborhood. But her relief quickly gives way to fear when she begins to suspect she’s living with a killer who is trying to frame her for murder. As disturbing clues pile up, including her landlord Angie’s increasingly erratic behavior and the discovery of blood-soaked rags in a vacant upstairs unit, Esme starts to believe Angie may have killed the real landlord and is setting her up as the scapegoat. With the police refusing to step in, Esme takes matters into her own hands, obsessively piecing together evidence until the truth can no longer be ignored.

Single Black Tenant premiered on Lifetime on June 27, and so far, people have been praising both Mowry’s performance and the story. She’s also an executive producer on the film.

A fresh pick for Friday night

I usually think of Tia Mowry as the smart teen from Sister, Sister or the med student who gave up Johns Hopkins for her football player boyfriend in The Game. Seeing her play someone ready to defend herself from danger made me add Single Black Tenant to my must-watch list.
