As I get older, Girlfriends has become one of my comfort shows. They weren’t always the best of friends, but there’s something nostalgic about hearing Angie Stone’s voice in the theme and watching Joan, Toni, Maya, and Lynn navigate their latest mess. No matter how many times I watch, I still tune in and act as if it’s my first time.

Have you ever thought about which friend was a fictional version of yourself? Each had their flaws, from Maya “I’m cheating on my husband” Wilkes to Toni “gold digging” Childs, Lynn “mooching mindset” Searcy, and Joan “I have to fix everyone’s problems” Clayton.

The series showed the ups and downs of the group, how four women in different spaces of their lives bonded, and how those differences eventually became a downfall in their personal lives. But which is your twin?

(This is just for fun)

Joan Clayton: The motherly one

If you’re the person every friend goes to when they need help, advice, or simply need to vent — you’re Joan. Being this friend is both a gift and a curse: it feels special to be the one people trust the most, but it’s also tiring to always be “the ear.” You’re making sure everyone else is ok, but who’s there for you?

Toni Childs: The confident one

If you have no problem walking into a room with all eyes on you, you’re Toni. The confidence you hold is a power; it can intimidate many people. They might want to compete with you, but in your eyes, no one can compete where they don’t compare.

Maya Wilkes: The real one

If you say what’s on your mind and aren’t afraid to repeat it multiple times, you’re Maya. Where you’ve come from doesn’t define where you’re headed. You might’ve gotten a later start, but that’s just more motivation to go harder.

Lynn Searcy: The undecided one

If you have a hard time making decisions, you’re Lynn. You’re smart and talented, but there’s something about moving forward that scares you into staying stagnant.
