Picture this: you’ve been friends with someone for two decades, and out of nowhere, gunmen open fire on your car. As panic sets in, you glance over to see your best friend, calm and ready, instructing you to take the wheel.
This heart-pounding moment happens within the first thirty seconds of the trailer for Ride or Die, Prime Video’s latest original series starring Octavia Spencer and Hannah Waddingham. Spencer’s character, Debbie Claybourne, discovers her best friend Judith Burton (Waddingham) is actually an international assassin. When Debbie’s car broke down twenty years ago, Judith, then a stranger, came to her rescue. Little did she know, twenty years later, they’d be fighting side by side against dangerous criminals.

The synopsis reads:
When a mysterious figure emerges from Judith’s past and a hit goes horribly wrong, both of their worlds are turned upside down as they’re forced to go on the run together. It’s a race against time and a road trip across Europe, with law enforcement, highly trained assassins, and some very dangerous criminals at their heels.
According to a press release, Ride or Die will premiere globally on Wednesday, July 15. The star-studded cast also features Bill Nighy, Ed Skrein, Sylvia Hoeks, Calam Lynch, Savannah Steyn, Jamie Parker, and Jacky Ido.
Prime Video’s Ride or Die trailer immediately grabbed my attention
Most buddy-action shows and movies feature male leads, so seeing two women at the center of this genre is a breath of fresh air. That alone piqued my interest, and the trailer sealed the deal. In just two minutes and eighteen seconds, viewers meet Debbie and Judith and quickly see their different personalities.
After the car showdown, Judith reveals to Debbie that, as an assassin, she targets terrible people. Debbie says, “For money,” prompting Judith to hilariously reply: “Well, if I did it for free, I’d be a serial killer.” The trailer then cuts to action-packed scenes of Judith in her element.
Debbie’s husband has apparently stolen millions, putting her in the crosshairs of dangerous enemies. Judith is determined to protect her friend. What follows is a wild ride: punches fly, cars flip, a fire extinguisher erupts, a hilariously bad British accent is heard (sorry, Debbie), there’s a daring train jump, and other moments that prove their friendship is, indeed, bulletproof.
